But above all, a player willing to help. With my mentor, Mildibus’s help, I was progressing far faster than I could ever have by myself. Now I also find myself mentoring younger students. I have never since looked back. For many in the Uni, this is not a unique experience.The universe of Eve is one with many questions. Some of these questions are too long to easily answer in crowded chat. Others are the sort that you wouldn’t even think to ask. Whatever the case, Eve University works to provide a mentor – an experienced player, matched to your needs, who can give the answers and help that only a one on one environment can. .Late September, the Uni instituted a new mentor manager, Aehara. Since then, it is heartening to see that the mentor program continues to work efficiently. All requests have been answered within a day and a 70% of requests being filled within the next day.I asked Aehara for his take on the program “As mentors, we help new students take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the University. Eve isn’t easy–individualized attention during those tough first few weeks can make all the difference in the world. For students with a few months experience under their belt, the mentor program is great way to start getting more involved and begin giving back to the University. I’ve gotten lots of positive feedback; the first students to complete the program on my watch are now some of the most active and enthusiastic members of the corporation. EU PRESS, KORSIKI, THE FORGE – Third Week of Classes Postponed{nl}On the 28th of November, Eve University received a war declaration from a three man corp "Svalbard Global Seed Vault" (SGSV), bringing the university into it’s third week of war.{nl}The latest war, coming just hours after the end of the previous two, has been a disappointment to the majority of the Uni students, who had hoped to enjoy some well earned peace. Once again recruitment has been closed for the duration of the war. Several lucky applicants made it in during the short window of peace, while others have been left hanging for another week before they can join the University.{nl}For the last two weeks, the Uni has been fighting Royal Hiigaran Navy (RHN), a mercenary group, and Castle Grayskull, a small corp led by ex Uni director Sabre A. Both wars saw successful efforts by Uni forces, achieving efficiency rates even higher than the usual. These successes were attributed to several losses of tech 2 ships by the enemy, notably a mission running fitted command ship flown by the RHN, much to the amusement of Uni students. Wartime activity by the RHN and Castle Grayskull was generally regarded as disappointing however, and many Uni members have expressed nostalgia for the war against Haiduken.{nl}In the stress of a war against former friends in Castle Greyskull, combined with other compounding factors, many seniors within the Uni have made the decision to stop postponing their entrance into the wider Eve Universe, and take their first steps into a larger world. The Uni wishes our former students the best of luck in their future endeavours, confident in the knowledge that the skills and dedication they brought to the Uni will serve them well in Eve.{nl}While practical classes have been postponed or reworked during the wartime activites, The learning in the Uni never stops. {nl}{nl}{nl}My Home Town {nl} {nl}So as I pack my bags to depart from Korsiki, I look back on the months that I spent with the University fondly. For me the departure is inevitable for when the wanderlust calls it’s time to tie your laces and set out. {nl}{nl}This has always been an issue for the older generations of Eve University. The university is the small hometown you were born into, you know almost all the people and almost everyone knows you, but beyond the mountains lies other lands. Where empires rise and fall and legends are made. {nl}{nl}After time in the University you learn to become more and more capable, they teach you everything you need to know to not only survive, but do well for yourself in the wider universe. When you reach a certain level of skills and knowledge you know you could climb that mountain and see the other side, but you don’t want to leave the friends you have made in the University, or you wish to stay to help the newer players get their bearings. {nl}{nl}So you stay while you watch others leave, sometimes they leave with an angry frown, sometimes with a small wave of goodbye. In your heart grows a desire to join them. Sometimes they leave completely, sometimes they leave a part of themselves behind but their heart is already gone and really all they left is but an empty shell. You look back at the red skies of Korsiki and wonder why it looks so dull. {nl}{nl}{nl}So many people are leaving, but it’s happened before and it’ll happen again. As each generation comes of age they’ll wish to leave, because the same boundaries put in place to help new players makes it a small place when you grow up. {nl}{nl}It always starts with a few that leave in anger, departing because they don’t want to be caged anymore by the small boundaries of this small town. Their departure is watched, and their presence missed. Others then look around and realise they’re tired of their humble beginnings and pack their bags too. {nl}{nl}Last time it happened I started packing but stopped. Then I walked to the edge and stared at the horizon, held there by indecision long after the last retreating backs had disappeared. Korsiki, The Forge — Diplomacy, Big Guns or both?The Mercenary Corporation, Royal Hiigaran Navy, has declared war on Eve University. The war went live on the 12 November 2008. Initial fighting has resulted in the loss of eleven frigates and one inteceptor, due to sniping tactics. The RHN has so far lost three battleships to Uni fleets. Future details pending an OPSEC assessment may describe the war effort in more detail, however leadership has maintained a low profile during their investigations. Dee Carson, Eve Universities Director of Operations, has described the war targets threat level as moderate. As usual, recruitment is closed until the war ends and will reopen once the war is over. KORSIKI, THE FORGE — Early End of war sees students return to classThe Crimson Federation, a mercenary alliance, has officially retraced the war against EVE University after 5 days of sporadic fighting. The war started off cool and saw very little action for the majority of the war. Students and teachers alike agreed that the war failed to deliver. Fortunately, this gave many uni students the change to practice fleet command without the pressure of major combat. “[Fleet Command] is more nerve wracking and exciting than I thought” remarked Michael Honcho, one of the students to command his first fleet.Ironically in the end, after the retraction, the war was most intense with one battle almost going capital. The incident occurred when six members of the Eve University Low Sec Apprenticeship (LSA), were engaged by a Thanatos Carrier and an Abbadon Battleship. Fleet Admiral Silentbrick, moved to mobilize a University Capital whilst Director of Operations Dee Carson, raced 25 jumps with Uni fleet comprised of 30 mixed ships to reinforce the position. The Crimson Federation responded by switching to smaller ships while bringing in further Capital reinforcements. The original enemy carrier pilot was destroyed in an Ishtar with no further fighting occurring as the uni forces withdrew.The Retraction itself came while Crimson Federation forces were scattered. Unable to contend against a far larger Eve University fleet, they retracted. No shots were fired during that time.Following the end-of-war grace period, the Korsiki School of Applied Knowledge was the usual scene of well-organized chaos with a surprising lack of fatal collisions being cause for celebratory cheer. Students were seen piloting nearly everything that would have previously been a liability during the war, from haulers to barges, shuttles to faction ships. Everything was uncovered, unlocked, and undocked. SAK Hangar Control was nearly overwhelmed, but found time to send us the following. “Go away, we’re busy!”With the war over for the forseeable future, recruiting is once again open and pilots can join in Korsiki II, School of Applied Knowledge or any starter system. KORSIKI, THE FORGE — Haiduken War Comes to a CloseStudents and teachers of Eve University celebrated the end of a 9 day war from Haiduken (.HAI.) Corporation. The war was retracted on the 10th of October and ends over a week of victories. Despite initial losses from inattentive players and a few over zealous students, Eve University quickly adapted, fighting back and pushing to bring the casualties on both sides to equal levels, while inflicting far higher financial losses on it’s enemy.Despite disruptions to missioning, mining, classes and speeches, University members are happy with the outcome of the war. “I think it’s safe to say that both sides have enjoyed the engagement.” states Kelduum Revaan, the Ivy Leagues Director of Diplomacy.Many student gained valuable PvP experience, such as Seifer Al’Masy, Aquadictus and Mackers UK, a former Factional Pilot who led EU operations for the first time. “Clear communications calms the pilot. Calm pilots means they can concentrate more on flying their ships rather than being left behind and being killed. They ‘wont’ be left behind, as they clearly know where they should be going” mentioned Mackers in a public report after the action. For others, it was their first taste of PvP and considered a success.Haiduken Corporation used Interceptors and Battleships with the aide of outside help in the form of logistics to great effect throughout the war effort. Eve University used their numbers to field superior tackling and electronic warfare ability. Despite the differing combat styles, both sides fought with healthy respect and appreciation for their enemies.The war was marked by several notable events. The Dark Horses declared war and were quickly caught in the crossfire with four losses and no kills, withdrawing soon after. Mackers UK again led an EU fleet on a suicidal charge that resulted in the loss of around 20 Ivy League ships. Not all was serious business however. An EU fleet reportedly took to mining Veldspar in enemy territory and yet another found themselves in Haajinen, crippled with laughter, clearly enjoying the last pulsating moments of the war. Morale was at an all time high.The war retraction came while Aphser, leading the destruction of a Scimitar logistics ship and guarded by six enemy battleships in Korsiki, resulting in the withdrawal of the war declaration. The last operation was a resounding success with zero losses under Aphsers steadfast command.During the dwindling hours of the war retraction, Fleet Admiral Silentbrick, led an Eve University expedition into BWF-ZZ, a former Big Blue territory in Null space. The fleet was wiped out however, a good time was had by all; except perhaps for a Unista pilot by the name of EYEDOLL, who had the misfortune of being the only Battleship pilot in the Fleet Operation.As the grace period came to a close outside a station in Poinen, Unista Pilots gathered for a pow-wow session, forming a conga line of ships which included KillerofMen, MobyDick and Orenishii of .HAI., with mutual respects being paid in local communication channels.– CazzahEUNN Reporter

Eve University AP — Financial Support Continues to Expand University ActivitiesThe Ivy League and Eve University, acknowledged a series of gifts this week from friends and former Eve University students at a State of the Union luncheon in the State Hall of the School of Applied Knowledge.Jon Falkenberg has established a 500M ISK endowment to be used to expand the teaching programs of the University. Additional funds into the dowry by Silke Morte, saw a contribution greater than 500M ISK to Eve Universities operating budget.”We do not solicit the support of the Eve community,” Dee Carson began his speech at the massive Hall at the School of Applied knowledge in Korsiki, “and as a volunteer organization, we’re always appreciative of the support that our mission of teaching new pilots the intricacies that our Universe garners among the general population.”Carson further went on to explain to the modest crowd of some one hundred students, teachers, mentors and other directors, “Our students and faculty are encouraged to express their thanks to our supporters when they have the opportunity, so let me be the first to publicly say ‘Thank You’ to these two fine pilots and to all of those who provide us support, without allowing us to publicly name them.” Dee Carson is the Eve University Director of Operations.Eve University is currently at war with Haiduken and it’s mercenary allies.
